Realutopie

Housing is one of the most complex basic needs: always changing, always in need of discussion, but also very individual and intimate. The residents of the «Unter-Grundhof» are aware of this. More than thirty years ago, a settlement was built there on a former farmstead that promotes ecologically, economically and socially sustainable forms of housing. But despite the attractiveness of the surroundings and the enthusiasm of the residents and visitors, such «neighbourhoods» are still to be found in small numbers in Switzerland.

My work portrays long-time and newly arrived residents of the «Unter-Grundhof» and tells of their perception of this place. The texts and images question the prevailing realities of life in urban areas and take up the theme of utopia, which often seems plannable but rarely achievable.
